This appliance is used to treat Class III patients with skeletal
midfacial deficiencies. An alternative to facemask treatment the
maxillary component is fixed using a Nance or maxillary expander with
soldered buccal arms for traction. The mandibular appliance is
removable. It consists of a retainer with clasps, posterior occlusial
coverage and headgear tubs. A .045 facebow with hooks for elastics
connects with the headgear tubes.
Elastic traction from the facebow to the buccal arms of the maxillary
appliance provides the protraction force to the maxilla. Recommended
wearing schedule is a minimum of 10-12 hours per day including while
sleeping. |
